There are three main differences between the Scrumptious and Essence Side pillows:

1. The Essence uses a gel-based fill, while the Scrumptious line uses a copper-based fill. The copper-based fill is better at regulating temperature, and copper also has natural antibacterial and antimicrobial properties, which can help keep your pillow fresh for longer.

2. The Scrumptious Pillows have the structural ribbon going along the side of the pillow, which makes the pillow's surface more uniform. Because of this, it can maintain a more even profile across the entire surface of the pillow, where the Essence has more of a gradual taper at the edges.

3. The Essence pillow is a little bit of a lower profile, which some people prefer. They are both considered Queen Size pillows, with the same length and width, but because the Essence doesn't have the structural ribbon going around it, it is approximately 1" lower in profile than the Scrumptious Pillow. If you prefer more of a flatter pillow, the Essence is for you. If, however, you prefer a thicker pillow (or have broad shoulders), the Scrumptious is for you.

Other than that, they are both made with 100% CertiPUR-US certified foam and fiber, and have an almost identical feel. People really love both of them, and although there are some distinctions that make the Scrumptious the more premium product, we don't feel like the Essence is inferior in any way, just different.

The outer fabric cover can be washed on cold and either hung, laid flat, or lightly tumble dried. The fill in our pillows is not designed to be washed, so it's important to remove the fill before washing your pillow.

The easiest way to keep your pillow clean, however, is to get one of our washable pillow cases for it (Click here!), and then that can very easily be removed and washed with your other bed linens. It also feels amazing, and will make your pillow sleep even cooler (I know, it doesn't seem possible - but it's true!)

Our curved Side Pillows are by far our most popular pillows, even though many of our customers are back and stomach sleepers. The curve allows you to stabilize your neck when you are on your back in a similar manner to a neck roll pillow, but is far more comfortable.

If you are a stomach sleeper, you can use the unique shape to fill in around your shoulder to give you a nice cushioned cocoon. What makes these pillows so great is how customizable they are.

Experiment with it and see what works the best for you :)

When you first get your pillow, open up the packaging, and allow it a little bit of time to expand to its full height. Sometimes there is a bit of an odor from the Certipur-US material that goes away pretty quickly. This is normal, and not harmful in any way. You can read about what it means to be Certipur-US certified (here).

Once it has fully expanded, try it out! If you feel like it is too high for you, you can open up the zipper and remove some of the fill to really make it your own.
